Seattle versus Portland 3K     June 11, 2022
Seattle defeats Portland 104-106 (low score wins)
First 10 finishers for each team score; men started 81 sec after     women In an epic battle, Team Seattle edged Team Portland by a mere 2 points! The event consists of 14 team members, with 10 to score, cross country style. It is tremendously exciting, and full of uncertainty right to the end. (And, as it turned out, beyond! Portland was initially declared the victor, until more calculating heads - Mark Bloudek with an assist from Jonathon Bermudez - prevailed.) The women began a lap before the men; Amelia Keyser-Gibson jumped out to an early lead and Ashley Maton moved into second. Then the men began and Tom Anderson took a decisive lead; it was just a question of how many women he would catch. He finally caught Amelia in the last 50 yards. But, as you can see from the score, this was a total team effort! With a 1-2 finish and with Tyler Van Dooren, Michael Kolor and Calahan Warren running under 8:30 (a time that ususally wins), you would think that would put us well ahead. But Portland was a more than worthy opponent, going 3-4-5-6-7 to take the lead! It was actually our second five of Allison Dorr, Rachel Brown, James Stadler, Chris Drozynski, and Tom Mikkelson, all of whom set personal bests, who secured the win. Fantastic racing on both sides, only decided when our tenth runner crossed the line. Portland still had two runners yet to finish, adding 19 and 20 points to their score. A huge thanks to all of our runners who gave it their all, as eleven of fourteen set personal bests!

Woodinville 10 Miler     April 18, 2021
The Woodinville Ten Miles featured warm weather and some really fast times. The men's field was led by the amazing master runner David Simmons in 53:19, with Luke Martin and Tyler Flannery finishing in second and third, and leading a group of seven men who ran under 55 minutes. Sophie Liu, fresh off her second place at the Carmel Marathon, had a decisive win in 57:31, with Sally Crowther a strong second and Talia Ruxin in third. The master's men rocked, with 40s masters Simmon's win, Geoffrey Njonjo under 55 minutes, and Jeff Hashimoto and Ben Sauvage leading a deep field of 50 year olds. We had generous help from our wonderful volunteers: Mark Bloudek with course set up, Saul Kinderis at the turnaround, Helen Sherk taking photos, Claire DeVoe and David Longmuir at the water stations, Matt Huerta on the lead bike, and Laura Goodfellow, Acy Roff, Jamin King, and Colleen Engle helping with timing, runner support and water at the finish. Thanks to all!

Virtual Marathon Relay #4     March 7, 2021
INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
Leg ratings M= moderate, H= hard, VH = very hard, EXT = extreme
It was an almost perfect day for Virtual Marathon Relay 4. That is, the weather was decent enough to race but rainy enough now and then to suppress the crowds. It was an exciting race as The Hypoxic Five edged Time Wounds All Heels by a scant 12 seconds, 2:42:39 to 2:42:51! All the teams were pretty evenly seeded and they all came close to matching their predicted seed times. Among open runners, the top individual performances were turned in by Hannah Westra (Team Scrambled Legs, Leg 5) and Evan Hardy (Team mRNA 1273 Fan, Leg 3). Top masters performances were turned in by supermasters (in every sense!) Gail Hall (Team Antivirus, Leg 1) and David Simmons (Team On Time, Under Budget, Leg 5), who had the fastest time of the day. So many other runners had great efforts, as they succeeded in matching or bettering their seed times.
Special thanks to Mark Bloudek, mister Swiss-Army Knife, for his conception of this race, his implementation and organization, and, on top of all that, manning an exchange point! A huge thanks to all of our volunteers, without whom we would be lost (probably literally!): Mark, Emmet, Sheridan, Saul and Deborah (yes, after racing her leg). And we want to thank once again, Helen Sherk and Alison and Mark Mandi for taking great action photos along the course. You all made this a grand success!
