Despite a lot of effort, not much has happened on the high school scene yet. There have only been a few meets and most had seriously crappy weather (SCW). Nonetheless, several runners have set PRs and are making steady progress. Many look to be on their way to State in their respective divisions.
Maddie Meyers, Kyra Burke and Chandler Olson are undefeated and are highly ranked in their divisions. Maddie is ranked first in the 800, 1600 and 3200 in 1A, Kyra is ranked first in the 800 and 3200 and 2nd in the 1600 in 4A, while Chandler is ranked 2nd, 5th and 6th in the 800, 1600, and 3200, also in 4A. Early days and these runners all know the value of peaking in late May.
Hazel Carr is a freshman with Maddie at Northwest and is having a fine season, setting PRs in the 400 and 3200 in single attempts. Both she and Maddie had excellent efforts in the steeplechase wiped out when they failed to time it at the Seattle Academy Relays. Grace Hodge(Roosevelt HS, 4A) has set PRs in 800, 1600 and 3200 and is undefeated in the 1600. Moira O’Connor-Lenth is at 3A Holy Names and is running well, having set a PR in the 800. She is undefeated in the 1600 and only lost once in both the 800 and 3200. Patrick and Kirby McDermott and Logan Presch are at 3A Ingraham where they are making excellent progress. Patrick has set a PR in the 1600, Kirby in the 800 and Logan has set PRs at all 3 distances. Both Patrick and Kirby have good chances to make it to state if their trajectory continues. Logan is having a breakthrough year at Ingraham and seems to be getting faster at every distance he races.
Anna Hill (4A Woodinville with Chandler), Bailey Scott and Abbey Bottemiller (3A Mt. Si) have done most of their racing in relays. Anna has run hard but has only had a couple of opportunities to race and is looking forward to better weather.
Look for things to pick up in April when the weather is bound to be much better.
